We are taking our first venture into the ESXi world. We've used ESX a lot but not ESXi. We have multiple clusters in vSphere (1 cluster for each physical location). Most of the clusters have 2 physical ESX servers. Most of those servers are hooked up to an APC UPS (the 2 servers in a cluster share the same UPS). In the past, I've purchased the ESX version of the powerchute software and loaded it on each ESX host. Now that I've started moving to ESXi, I have some questions.
- Do I need to purchase a new version of the Powerchute software to work with ESXi?
- Do I install the software on the ESXi hosts or do I need to use vMA?
- If I use vMA, do I need to have an instance of vMA running on each ESXi host or can I have 1 instance per cluster?
- Do I set up the vMA to target the ESXi hosts or the vSphere host?
- Are there any other things I should know about the installation?
