vMA with active directory problems

I've read a few posts with people having issues, and William mentioned there may be a bug, but has it been resolved?

Using ESX4.1 u1. vMA 4.1.0

For some of my esx hosts, when trying esxcfg-nics -l for example, i always get prompted for credentials. I cant work out why esxhost1 works, yet esxhost2-4 dont. (using each esxhost as vifptarget). They are all in the same cluster. but when using vcenter as the vifptarget, all esxhosts prompt for credentials.  If i enter the username/password when prompted, it works all ok..
I've joined vma to the domain, and the esx hosts/vcenter are also on the domain. I've logged into each esxhost using vSphere client with my domain\user to confirm it works.
I log into vma with domain\user.
I can add servers ie:
sudo vifp addserver esxhost1.mydomain.com --authpolicy adauth
Enter username for esxhost1.mydomain.com: DOMAIN\user
[user@vma ~]$ vifptarget -s esxhost2
[user@vma ~][esxhost2]$ esxcfg-nics -l
Enter username:
are there any log files that may help find the difference between esxhost1 and the others? nothing stands out in /var/log/vmware/vma/vifpd.log
/var/log/messages displays:
lsassd[2045]: 0x49025940:Error code -1 occurred during attempt 0 of a ldap search. Retrying.
lsassd[2045]: 0x49025940:Clearing ldap DC connection list for domain 'DOMAIN' due to a network error.
not sure if they are related..
I just cant work out why 1 works, and 3 dont :-(
